My name is Marie Gage and I offer birth and postpartum doula services to families in the Greater Seattle area. I have given birth to eight children, so can say I have quite a bit of birth experience of my own. The first three of my babies were born by c/section and the other 5 were normal, natural births with midwives. Having experienced both highly interventive, surgical birth and natural birth has given me unique perspective and empathy for women on both ends of the spectrum.
My work as a doula began many years ago when I was preparing to apply to Seattle Midwifery School. I took the  doula training course because it was a prerequisite for entering the midwifery education program there. It turned out that midwifery school needed to be put on hold, but I discovered the wonderful work of labor and birth support. I have attended many women in birth since then, and it never ceases to be an incredibly beautiful and satisfying work for me. If I had been able to have the support of a doula I know my own first 3 babies would likely not have been born by cesarean.

My passion is to help birthing women to have what I did not: understanding of labor and birth as safe and a process that works very well, labor support that respects the power and dignity of a woman, education that empowers her, and a birth that is safe for her and her baby.
