Doula: A Greek word meaning "woman's servant". My role as a birth doula  is to provide emotional, physical and informational support to the mother-to-be before, during and immediately following childbirth.

Philosophy~Because of my training, experience and background I have faith in the birth process as a normal, healthy physiological process that women and babies were designed for. It is so important for the woman giving birth to feel that her needs and wishes are the priority of her birth attendants. That is the wonderful role that a doula can play in your birth. As your doula I help by:

Educating: Directing you to the most recent research-based information on labor and birth, including current hospital practices and interventions, so you can make informed decisions.

Encouraging: As a woman who has been there before you, I believe in the normalcy and miracle of birth. I am there for you, supporting you and advocating for you. My hope is that my presence, my words of encouragement and my physical support will add courage and strength when you need it most.  

Empowering: My highest hope is that the women I support in birth will begin to understand how strong they really are. That they will trust their bodies, that they will own their decisions about their births and their babies because they have the right to, and that each new mother will come away from her experience feeling honored and respected.

By giving a birthing woman the knowledge she needs, supporting each one in her decisions,  and  advocating for her during labor and birth she is empowered in so many ways. The confidence gained from a positive birth and postpartum experience extends into every area of her life and future decision-making, especially those which concern her children.
